In 1950, a group of badminton enthusiasts got together to form the Mysore State Badminton which later evolved into the Karnataka Badminton Association (KBA). The Association made tremendous progress, including in infrastructure, which culminated in building the Indoor Badminton Stadium along with the clubhouse. At present we have more than 1600 Members in our Association.
KBA is the only association in Asia to have 10 permanent courts of which 5 are synthetic hova, and the rest wooden. The stadium itself has a seating capacity of about 3000. These courts, coupled with the state of the art gym and health club, offer the best of facilities for fostering and training of Badminton players in India. The Club house also has facilities like Steam & Sauna, Swimming, Billiards, Table Tennis, Squash Court, Bar & Restaurant etc. The Prakash Padukone Badminton Academy also operates out of these KBA courts.
The past office bearers and several committed members of KBA have contributed significantly over the years to the development and growth of this Association, to make KBA a premier sports institution in India. The Association would like to sincerely acknowledge the efforts of the people who made it all happen, and the others who contributed to this endeavor.
In 1962, the Association under the leadership of Mr. Ramesh Padukone (the late father of the legendary Prakash Padukone), conducted the highly memorable 27th National and the 18th Interstate Badminton championships. After a huge gap of 44 years, in January 2006, KBA conducted the 70th Nationals and the 61st Interstate Badminton championships. The championship was a tremendous success and hailed as one of the best ever.
Today, KBA is actively involved in promoting Badminton throughout Karnataka, with special emphasis on nurturing budding talent, particularly in various districts, and to groom them into future international championships.
In this endeavor KBA along with the District Badminton Association (DBA) conducts coaching camps at various district headquarters regularly. KBA along with the DBA’s also hold local tournaments to indentify talented boys and girls. These talented players are then adopted by KBA which supports them for coaching and other badminton related activities.
